Civil Engineering is considered to be one of the most diverse and versatile of the engineering disciplines. Civil Engineering contributes to modern standard of living and almost all products of modern life have contributions from Civil engineers. The Department of Civil Engineering which started in the year 1986 with an intake of 60 students, offers undergraduate programme with emphasis on fundamental theory and practice in Civil Engineering keeping in view the current and continuously changing scenarios in this discipline. The Department has established state-of-art laboratories which can provide opportunities for the students at all levels to get acquainted with the latest developments in various avenues of Civil Engineering. In addition to Teaching and Instruction, the faculty is also engaged in actively guiding student projects with an aim to generate innovative concepts and ideas or apply the existing technologies to new applications. The department is also actively involved in material testing works. We plan to undertake industrial consultancy work and also organize Conferences / Workshop for professional interaction. The faculty members in the department are a blend of experienced seniors with dynamic youngsters. The department makes efforts to continuously enhance teaching-learning environment by using best practices and innovations in pedagogy.

2024:

The department in association with IIC Innovation Council Cell organized an “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Outreach Program: Cultivating Innovators of Tomorrow” at Govt Primary School Suggatta, Bengaluru on 29th and 30th July 2024. 30 school students took part in the Program. The event was Coordinated by Ms. Tamil Selvi N., Ms. Anitha J., and Mr. Sriram Mustapure.

As part of the course Construction Management and Entrepreneurship the department organized Online Interaction: “Bridging Theory and Practice: Industry Insights on Cutting-Edge Construction Management “on 29th July 2024 and 30th July 2024. 19 students from Sixth Semester took part in the visit. The event was Coordinated by Ms. Tamil Slevi N.

The department organized a site visit to a Ready-Mix Concrete plant located near Sir MVIT on 26th July 2024. 33 students from Fourth Semester took part in the visit. The visit was organized by Ms. Ramya N., Ms. Subhadra G. D., and Ms. Anitha J.

The department organized a site visit to ACC plant near Sir MVIT on 18th July 2024. 19 students from Sixth Semester took part in the visit. The visit was organized by Dr. Pradeepa S., and Ms. Bhavya S.

As part of the course “Universal Human Values”, the department organized an Awareness program on Social Justice and Equity and Environmental Stewardship at Hunasamaranahalli Village on 3rd July 2024. 33 students from Fourth semester participated in the event. The event was coordinated by Dr. Pradeepa S. and Ms. Bhavya S.

The department organized Site Visit to New Library Block at Sir MVIT campus, on 24th June 2024. 33 students from Fourth semester took part in the visit. The visit was organized by Ms. Ramya N.

The department in association with ISTE Student chapter Organized Technical Talk on “Global water industry Prospective” on 7th June 2024. The resource person was Mr. Jagadish Babu, Practice Manager, Atkins. challenges in the water industry, including water scarcity, pollution, and infrastructure maintenance. 38 students from Fourth semester and Sixth semester attended the session.

Under the esteemed patronage of Susamkriti, the Alekhya Literary Club orchestrated an extraordinary inter-college Parliamentary Debate tournament spanning from the 24th to the 26th of May 2024. Ms. Tamil Selvi N. serves as the faculty mentor for this club.

The department organized Extensive Survey Camp, from 29th April 2024 to 10th May 2024 at Sughatta Village and Kaiwara, Bengaluru. 19 students of sixth semester took part in the Camp.

The department organized Five- Day Online Faculty Development Program on “Sustainable Construction Materials, Practices, and Technologies.” from 18th to 22nd March 2024. The event was coordinated by Ms. Anitha J., Dr. Pradeepa S., Ms. Tamil Selvi N. and Ms. Ramya N.

The department in association with Indian Oil Corporation Limited Organized Webinar on “Road Construction and use of Bitumen” on 15th March 2024. The resource person was Mr. Dhanesh Kumar, Sr. Manager, IOCL R&D Centre. 75 students from Third, Fifth and Eighth Semester attended the session. The event was coordinated by Mr. K. V. R. The department of Civil Engineering in association with association with Institution’s Innovation Council as a part of the Pollution Control Day Awareness Program organized quiz event from 19th to 21st February 2024. 2023:

On behalf of IIC Sir MVIT, the department organized a MIC-driven activity, "Viksit Bharat PM Live Webcast," on 11th December 2023. The resource person of the event was Ms. Reena Sonigrah, Well Being Consultant, Sir MVIT. This program aimed at active youth participation and engagement in shaping the future of India towards 2047.

Department of Civil Engineering in association with Indian Concrete Institute Bengaluru Centre, Karnataka had organized a Technical Talk by Er. H. R. Girish., Chairman ICI and Er. Suhas R., Secretary ICI on “Latest Developments in Bridge Engineering” on 21st Nov 2023 at M. V. Seminar Hall. 60 students from Seventh, Third and First Semester participated in the event.

The department had organized a One- Day Student Development Program (SDP) by Dr. U. B. Mallikarjuna, Consulting Hydrogeologist and Former Professor and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Sambhram Institute of Technology, Bengaluru on “Groundwater Investigation by Electrical Resistivity Method: A Practical Approach” on 18th October 2023 at M. V. Seminar Hall, Department of Civil Engineering, Sir MVIT. About 58 students from Seventh semester participated in the event.

The department had organized One Day Workshop in collaboration with SMEC, Surbana Jurong on “Curating Innovative Future Technologist” on 11th October 2023 at M. V. Seminar Hall, Department of Civil Engineering, Sir MVIT. About 58 students from Seventh semester participated in the event.

Department of Civil Engineering Organized Community Engagement Activity on the topic “Lifestyle Management” on 20th September 2023. There were about 60 students from Government Higher Primary School, Bettahalsoor participated in the event.

A project-based learning activity for the course Public Health Engineering was organized on 15th September 2023 for Fourth semester students of Civil Engineering Department.

Project-based learning activity for the course on Alternate Building Materials and Railway, Harbours, Tunnelling & Airports was organized on 20-06-2023 for S6 Students of Civil Engineering Department at Sir. Ms. Tamil Selvi N. & Mr. Sriram Mustapure organised Guest Lecture on Rock & Mineral Resources for subject Conservation of Natural Resources by Dr. Shivanna S., Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Sir M. VIT Bengaluru on 31-05-2023. Overall, 50 students of Sixth semester participated in the event.

The Department Organised Industrial Awareness Program on Building Information Modelling by Mr. Viswas K Viswanathan, Industry Partner, Autodesk Certified Instructors, Bangalore on 25th April 2023. Overall 45 students of 6th sem participated in the event.

The Department Conducted the Alumni Interactions and alumni meet on 25-03-2023 at Civil Seminar Hall. Around 20 Students of 2018-2022 Graduated batch, attended the programme, in which the Original Degree certificates of the students were distributed. Ms. Lalita R. Hangarai who got VTU 8th Rank and Ms. Deepika R., who got VTU Gold medal and, Ms. Akanksha, Best student of the 2018-22 batch, were also felicitated, in the programme.

One-day Site visit to Anthem Bio Science, Harohalli Industrial Area, Bangalore, for S5 students on 9-01-2023 . 5th sem students visited this site. Students got Technical exposure on construction.
