- Research, Innovation, Consultancy, Entrepreneurship, Product Development etc., are the key parameters of academic progress and growth, and Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology (SIR MVIT) is committed towards ensuring a creative atmosphere for our students and faculty to take up such activities in emerging areas of engineering and technology. This nurtures an environment that promotes creativity and scholarship. The core lies in innovation and that comes from new ideas that very often emanate from collaborative initiatives.
- The faculty and students undertake research projects in the thriving areas of science, engineering, management and technology. Apart from conducting projects in fundamental areas, many R&D projects are excuted to tackle live problems. Faculties of various departments have received funding from agencies like DST, AICTE, DBT, ICMR, BIRAC etc. The institute aims to forge academic and research collaborations with reputed institutes and industries.

Scope of R & D
- To inculcate the spirit and culture of research amongst all the stakeholders like students, faculties, management, parents and industries.
- To enhance interaction and cooperation between researchers and stake holders, for undertaking interdisciplinary and Multi-disciplinary project activities.
- To forge academic and research collaborations with national and international Universities, government organizations and industries.
- To establish links with various R&D organizations and funding agencies or venture capitalist for pursuing sponsored and contract research projects.
The team TRINETRA TECH from the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering and Electronics & Computer Engineering received the Special Mention Award at WITCHHUNT 2026, organized by Hopeworks Foundation. The team was recognized for its AIoT-based Industrial Worker Safety System and was awarded a cash prize of ₹50,000 for their innovative solution. Dakshata and Srikhari (8th Semester, Biotechnology) won the Appreciation Prize of ₹8,000 at the National Science Fair-2026, organized by the Agastya International Foundation, Bengaluru.
Their project, “Saliva-Based CKD Biosensor,” was presented by high school students Nayonika and Jithya Reddy, who were trained by the BT undergraduates and mentored by Dr. Rajend Singh C.
The team Embedded Minds Vikas, T. S. Sai Likith, Shashank S. Bendre, Pradep Kumar K., from Electronics and Communication Engineering department were one among the top five finalists for Smart India Hackathon 2025 Grand Finale, held at VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad from 8th December to 12th December 2025.
Team MARS participated in the Indian Super Karting Series (ISS) Season 3, organized by Hindustan Motor Sports, held at MIT, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, from July 3rd to 6th, 2024. Competing against 23 teams from across India, they emerged as the Champions in the Internal Combustion (IC) category. The team secured multiple accolades, including:

The Team “Electrimo 2.0” has bagged Ten awards, The Overall Champions Award, Dronacharaya Award-Best Faculty Advisor, Safety Award, Social Media Award,Innovation Winner, Design & CAE Award, Cost/Business Plan Award, Best Driver Award and Skid Pad Award Autocross Award at the Auto India Racing Championship (AIRC)- Season-6, held at Ajeenkya D. Y Patil University, Pune, during 25th – 28th May, 2023.
Dr Rashmi K V received “Young Scientist Award” for her research presentation at the “3rd International Conference on Applications of Natural compounds, Nanomaterials, Oncolytics in Cancer Biology and Biotechnology (ICANNOCB-22)” organized by School of Life Sciences in Association of Cancer Education and Research (ACER), B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai, India and Purdue University, USA on 27th-28th October, 2022.
“Dr Priya Narayan, Associate professor, Dept. of BT, Sir MVIT and Dr. Mousami Mondal, and Team from Mallipathra Nutraceutical Private Limited, Incubatee @ Sir MVIT won the BIRAC Innovator award -2020 during the award ceremony of the “Global Bio India 2021 held on 3rd March 2021.”
In support of PM’s vision “Building Aatma Nirbhar Bharath” and “Vocal for Local”, a team consisting of faculty members Dr.M.S DivyaRani, T.K Padmagayathri, and Sreelakshmi.T and students Vivek Chowdary ,Yuvaraj, Nischal and Vurchus Nagesh of 7 th sem from Dept. of ETE developed a Low cost “Organic Human Disinfectant Tunnel ”
The Team Excelsior consisting of Vipul Gaurav, Vishal V, Tushar Sharma and Susmit Agarwal under the mentorship of Dr. Savita Choudhary of the Department of Computer Sciences and Engineering won the First Prize at National Convention of the AICTE Awards 2019 in Water category held at AICTE Headquarters, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi on February 23-24, 2020.
