The Department of Chemistry at Sir MVIT has been an integral part of the institution since its inception in 1986. Over the years, it has established a strong foundation in academics and research, continually enhancing its expertise and capabilities in both areas.

The department consistently achieves excellent results in VTU, Belagavi's examinations. Recognized as an R & D Centre by VTU, the department fosters collaborative and interdisciplinary research, supported by state-of-the-art facilities. Faculty members actively contribute to academia, publishing high-impact research articles in renowned journals such as Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, and Taylor & Francis.

With a distinguished reputation in teaching and research, the department boasts a team of highly qualified faculty members who have authored books and are well-regarded for their academic excellence and dedication.

Program Outcomes
  • PO1 Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering
  • PO2 Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
  • PO3 Design/ Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental

The Department of Chemistry, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council, organized a One Day R & D Awareness Program titled “R & D Processes, Funding Opportunities, Ethics and International Best Practices” on 23rd December 2025 at Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology. The program aimed to sensitize faculty and students to contemporary research and development processes, national and international funding opportunities, research ethics, and global best practices. The technical session was delivered by Dr. Dinesh Rangappa, Professor and Chairperson, Department of Applied Sciences (Nanotechnology), VTU, who provided valuable insights into building impactful research careers, proposal development, and ethical conduct in research. The event fostered a strong research culture, encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration, and motivated participants to pursue quality research aligned with national and global standards.
