Overview

Dr. Suresh H.L. Professor & HoD

The department is a recognized Research Centre under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), offering both Full-time and Part-time Ph.D. programs, as well as M.Sc. (Engineering) by Research. With highly qualified and experienced faculty members, the curriculum emphasizes strong theoretical foundations combined with practical applications, enabling students to develop technical expertise and problem-solving skills.

Students benefit from experiential and interactive learning through project-based assignments, collaborative work, computer-aided simulations, and hands-on activities. The department fosters a culture of independent and lifelong learning, preparing students to excel in both academia and industry.

Well equipped laboratory facilities support instruction and research in Power Systems, Power Electronics and Drives, Digital Signal Processing, Analog and Electronic circuits, and Control systems. These labs, along with project-based learning and in-house innovations, ensure students are well-prepared for real-world challenges.

The department actively encourages student participation in professional societies such as IEEE, ISTE and supports specialized clubs focused on Robotics, Smart Grids, Electric Vehicles, and Embedded Systems. MoUs with leading industries, research institutions, and government agencies provide avenues for internships, collaborative research, and industry exposure.

Graduates of the department are well-placed in core engineering sectors, multinational corporations, public sector units, and higher education institutions, reflecting the department’s strong commitment to excellence in education, research, and professional development.

Electricaland Electronics Engineering (EEE) offers expansive career opportunities in electric power systems, automation, renewable energy, smart grids, electric vehicles, industrial electronics, and control systems. EEE professionals are vital to the advancement of modern infrastructure, energy systems, and technological innovation worldwide.

Programme Outcomes

PO1: Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization as specified in WK1 to WK4 respectively to develop to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO2: Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions with consideration for sustainable development. (WK1 to WK4)
PO3: Design/Development of Solutions: Design creative solutions for complex engineering problems and design/develop systems/components/processes to meet identified needs with consideration for the public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon, culture, society and environment as required. (WK5)
PO4: Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge including design of experiments, modelling, analysis & interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions. (WK8).
PO5: Engineering Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering & IT tools, including prediction and modelling recognizing their limitations to solve complex engineering problems. (WK2 and WK6)
PO6: The Engineer and The World: Analyze and evaluate societal and environmental aspects while solving complex engineering problems for its impact on sustainability with reference to economy, health, safety, legal framework, culture and environment. (WK1, WK5, and WK7).

The Centre focuses on domains such as Power system stability studies, Voltage Stability, computer and Real time applications to Power Systems, Reactive Power coordination and Dispatch, Smart Grid Technologies, Power Quality issues, Renewable Energy etc., AI Application to Power Systems and Control System
