Prof. Rakesh S. G.
Prof. Rakesh S.G. is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and currently working as Principal at Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru.
Prof. Rakesh S.G. completed his B.E. from R.V. College of Engineering, Bengaluru in 1989 and did his M.E. with specialisation in ‘Thermal Engineering’ at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi in 1993. After that, he completed his Ph.D. in ‘Biomedical Applications of Shockwaves’ from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, in 2009.
He has 33 years of rich teaching and research experience with reputed institutions like R.V. College of Engineering (1989), Bengaluru, Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology (1990-2002), Bengaluru and Amrita School of Engineering (2002-2022), Bengaluru. Along with the teaching pursuit, he headed the academic administration at Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, from 2009 to 2020. Before this, he worked in various capacities helping academic administration at Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore, since 2002.
His primary research areas are Gas Dynamics/Shockwave Dynamics, Supersonic & Hypersonic Flows and Heat transfer. He has presented papers at various International Symposiums on Shockwaves held in India & abroad. He has around 30 peer-reviewed international research publications to his credit.

He was the recipient of the ‘Best Teacher’ award in the year 1999 at Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. He was conferred with the ‘Eminent Engineer’ Award by the Institution of Engineers (India), Karnataka State Centre, for the meritorious services rendered in the field of education during the 49th Engineers’ Day Celebrations.
He is a life member of the ‘Indian Society for Technical Education’ and ‘Shockwave Society’. He has taught many courses to UG and PG students in thermal and design specialisations and has guided many UG and PG projects during his 33 years of service. He has taken a lead role in many of the outreach programmes conducted while working at Amrita School of Engineering. He is well known for his sincerity, meticulous planning and execution of work and discipline.
