SIR
M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, popularly known as SIR MVIT,
is named after an illustrious son of India, a great engineer statesman,
Bharath Ratna SIR M. Visvesvaraya.
It is located 23 kilometers away from Bangalore City on Bangalore-Bellary
National Highway in a quiet and serene atmosphere. The Institute was
established in 1986 by Sri
Krishnadevaraya Educational Trust, Bangalore. Starting from
a small building at Bangalore Palace Grounds in 1986, the Institute
has moved to a sprawling, well developed, 130-acres Campus.
The
Institute has five major blocks to house various departments apart from
the workshops and central library. There are two gents hostels in the
campus to accommodate around 400 male students and a ladies hostel to
accommodate 100 students. The sports ground is spread over an area of
30 acres and a separate indoor games hall has been recently constructed
and is being used. The Institute works six days a week from 8:30
AM to 4:15 PM. & on Saturdays from 8.30 AM
to 12.30 PM
The
Institute has a good transport system for students and staff to commute
from various parts of the city of Bangalore. In addition, there are
facilities such as medical help, dental care, bank, canteen and Internet
Browsing Center. The campus has a well laid road system and thousands
of tree saplings are planted every year to make it more pleasing to
the eyes and to have pollution free atmosphere. Since its foundation
in 1986, SIR MVIT has become one of the largest and the most comprehensive
private institution of higher learning.
The Institute formulates
and organises different programmes to enrich its students by providing
quality education and improving the institutional environment so as
to have an intellectual atmosphere in the Campus. Recently strategic
planning initiatives have been adopted in the Institute to optimise
its resources and to maximise all round performance.
Campus
is well connected through optical fibre cable intranet. Internet facilities
are provided via ISDN lines. Separate building for Centre for Industry-Institution
Interaction comprising Training and Placement Cell and Research &
Development Cell is planned for the current year. The Library transactions
are automated and contains a large collections of video cassettes. Digital
library has become operational and is going to be expanded substantially.
