Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering / (Accredited By NBA / AICTE, Grade Awarded 'B')

The Aim of the Department is to produce Electronics & Communication Engineers, who combine academic excellence with practical expertise. To achieve this aim, well equipped laboratories, central and departmental libraries support students throughout their course of study. The academic courses cover fundamental and vital areas of importance in electronics relevant to both Industry and Research. Electives are offered to permit students from the 6th semester onwards to select subjects which particularly interest them. Final year students carry out research and industry-oriented projects in the 8th Semester. To give junior students a flavour such activity, they are also encouraged to seek out and pursue projects with reputable Research and Industrial Organizations. This opportunity has been eagerly seized by several students of the 6th Semester.

The Department offers the following courses:

  1. B.E. in Electronics & Communication Engg.
  2. M.Tech in Electronics

Some undergraduate and postgraduate students have distinguished themselves by securing University ranks, and have achieved high scores in the GATE and other competitive examinations. Several have been admitted to post-graduate courses in the IIT’s, I.I.Sc. as well as Universities in the US, UK and Europe. Our students also participate in various competitions and conferences, e.g., HP Innovate in 2008, wherein the Sir MVIT paper was one of the top ten selected nationally. The departmental faculty and students have published papers at the national and international levels.

This Department has been recognized as an R & D Centre by the Visvesvaraya Technological University for carrying out research work leading to the award of M.Tech (Electronics), M.Sc. (Engg.) and Ph.D. degrees. Six research scholars have registered for their Ph.D. and M.Sc. (Engg) degrees.  The research center has recently been equipped with industry standard Cadence software for VLSI design.

The department has an active IEEE student branch and a Forum to organize seminars in forefront and cutting edge subjects.  The   students are thus exposed to the latest developments in electronics engineering and other relevant areas

Areas of Specialization: : Signal Processing, Electronics, Advanced Control Systems, Mobile Communication, Optical Meteorology, Instrumentation, VLSI/VHDL.

Laboratories:

The department has its own seminar hall with DLP and OHP’s for facilitating Seminars and lectures. The department has an active IEEE student branch and a Forum to organize seminars in forefront and cutting edge subjects. The students are thus exposed to the latest developments in electronics engineering and other relevant areas.

Co-curricular activities:

On their own initiative, our students have founded a group called “i-Cube” for promoting research and project activities for students of all braches of Engineering. I-Cube encourages creative activities by holding competitions and Seminars. First year students also participate enthusiastically in all these activities.
A departmental News Letter “Electronically Speaking” has commenced publication, and two issues have appeared. Its lively and variegated contents have kindled a lot of interest. Students are encouraged to contribute articles of scientific and general interest, as well as others of more general nature to this publication.

Forum Activities:

Forum of the department and Students of Telecommunication Engg. and ISTE Students Chapter conducted a workshop on VLSI Design on 24th October, 2009 for 7th Semester Telecommunication students and I Semester M.Tech. As a part of workshop, Dr. Sangamitra Sen from DRDO delivered a lecture on “CMOS technology overview and scaling issues”. Mr. Chandramohan from Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies delivered a lecture on “CMOS VLSI Design”.

ISTE Students’ Chapter:

ISTE Students’ Chapter and the Department organized three seminars on:

  1. “Hidden Markov Model and Its Applications in speech recognition” UAV and Defense Communication Networks by an eminent scientist Sri D. Madhusudan Rao, UG Consultants, Sri Nagarajan, ADE, Sri K. Ramesh, Scientist – G, CAIR, Bangalore on 4th,, 6th March, and 5th  May, 2009 respectively.

Alumni Meet:

First meeting of the Alumni of Electronics & Communication Engg. and Telecommunication Engg. was held on 1st August, 2009. More than sixty alumni attended the programme and the event was organized by 6th Semester students of EC and TE. The programme commenced with an invocation, followed by Group Discussion on the topic “Further Studies Vs. Industrial Employment” and Question and Answer session.  Alumni also shared their real life experiences with the present students.
