The Department of Master of Computer Applications in SIR MVIT, was started in the year 1998 with an intake capacity of 30 students. Subsequently, the intake strength was raised to 60 in the year 2000. This department had been functioning along with Computer Science and Engineering Department until May 2003, and was bifurcated and started operating as a separate department on its own since then. The department has grown strength to strength, from the modest admissions and results to 100% results and placements.

The department adopts a policy in which a strong focus is given to students' academic performance and overall personality development. Needless to say, this college takes utmost care to nurture the software skills in the budding software engineers by conducting various training programmes in high-end technologies and giving hands-on projects with active assistance from its teaching staff.
