Master of Computer Applications
The department was set up in 1998 with an annual intake of 30 students and subsequently enhanced to 60. Over the years, the department has established well-equipped laboratory with internet facility and excellent library. It offers an excellent academic environment to boost complete personality development, increase the capabilities and confidence of both the teachers and students to take up the challenges of the dynamic socio-technical world. The department has organized Seminar series by eminent personalities from industry, academia and from Professional bodies. The dept. has organized various workshops to upgrade the technical and teaching skills of the staff. The dept. encourages participating in National/International conferences to present papers and learning upcoming knowledge. The dept. has published research papers around 30 in number including IEEE publications in various Journals and conferences. To support creativity amongst the students it brought forth the departmental forum called “PRAYOG” and organized an event “CHITRAKA”, to showcase the hidden artistic talents. Other activities like ALUMNI Meet was conducted to interact with Alumni of MVIT and to get an idea about the future professional path. The department to its credit has also set up a unique academic talent recognition and awarding scheme called VIDYAABHIVAKTI, to motivate the students of academic excellence.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE IN THE DEPARTMENT:
- The department is equipped with 3 independent computer laboratories with 30 high end systems in each lab.
- The labs (with 60 systems) are connected with Local Area Network and has Internet facility of 2mbps speed.
- The department has a licensed software `Rational Software Architect 7.0’ and has the following freely downlodable softwares such as Tally 9.0, Visual studio 2005, Tomcat 1.6, Other freewares used in the department include turbo C 3.0, Fedora 9.0, Java 1.6, Cobol, Oracle 8i, My sql and MS Office.
DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:
A. Faculty Training Workshop:
The Department in association with IBM organized a Faculty Training Workshop from August 10-13th 2009 on “Object Oriented Analysis & Design using IMB Rational Software Architect”. 27 participants (13 participants from Sir MVIT and 14 participants from other colleges) got hands-on experience in using RSA. Design patterns and their significance in software design engineering were discussed. The programme provided an opportunity to reduce the gap between academic and industry.
B. Mr. Rajesh N, Lecturer, participated in a workshop on “Design and Analysis of Algorithms” from 26th to 28th October, 2009 organized by NMIT, Bangalore.
FORUM (PRAYOG) ACTIVITIES:
Department organized an invited talk on “Employability Skills” by Ms. Sumitra Manamohan & Ms. Ann Joseph, Corporate Trainers, Catalyst, Bangalore on 27th August, 2009 for the benefit of the students.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
A.The department organized an invited lecture by Mr. A. Nareshkumar Yadav, Director, Atlantics Software Technologies, Bangalore on 10th September, 2009 to give a presentation on how to develop a software and shared his difficulties and experiences in developing his first dream product “Students Management System” in an interactive manner with the students.
B. Faculty and students of the department organized a program on 25th September to welcome the first year students. A brief information about the dept., university rules, examination details were presented.
C. A formal inauguration of first year MCA/MBA was jointly organized by the Departments of MBA/MBA on 01/10/2009. Prof. Rajeev Gowda from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore was the Chief Guest.
D. One-day workshop on “Personality Development’ for the students was conducted by Mr. George Ranson, A Chief Trainer from Speak & Spark Institute of English on 7th November, 2009. 120 students from I, III and V Semesters participated in the programme.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
A. More than 30 students from the department participated in the intra-collegiate cultural competition “Verve” organized by the institution on 10th October, 2009 and won I, II and III prizes in different events.
B. Ms. Priti Prasanna of 5th Semester won second prize in Poster Presentation competition in Kalajali-09 held in the institution during 30-31st Oct. 2009.
C. 5th Semester students – Anand Hiremath and Vinay Gawli participated in an inter collegiate competition held at Mount Caramel College, Bangalore and won first prize for Technical Event Web Designing.
ALUMNI MEET:
Alumni meet of MCA was conducted on 7th February, 2009. Alumni have come forward to conduct free coaching sessions to prepare the students to face the interviews, group discussions etc., to tackle present scenario with hope and confidence.
