Civil Engineering is considered to be one of the most diverse and versatile of the engineering disciplines. Civil Engineering contributes to modern standard of living and almost all products of modern life have contributions from Civil engineers. The Department of Civil Engineering which started in the year 1986 with an intake of 60 students, offers undergraduate programme with emphasis on fundamental theory and practice in Civil Engineering keeping in view the current and continuously changing scenarios in this discipline. The Department has established state-of-art laboratories which can provide opportunities for the students at all levels to get acquainted with the latest developments in various avenues of Civil Engineering. In addition to Teaching and Instruction, the faculty is also engaged in actively guiding student projects with an aim to generate innovative concepts and ideas or apply the existing technologies to new applications. The department is also actively involved in material testing works. We plan to undertake industrial consultancy work and also organize Conferences / Workshop for professional interaction. The faculty members in the department are a blend of experienced seniors with dynamic youngsters. The department makes efforts to continuously enhance teaching-learning environment by using best practices and innovations in pedagogy.

The department of Civil Engineering in association with Institution’s Innovation Council as a part of the Pollution Control Day Awareness Program organized Online Technical talk on “Inventions Inspired by Nature” at Sir M. V. Seminar Hall on 23rd February 2024. The resource person was Dr. S. Sindhu Nachiar from SRM IST, Kattankulathur. The event was coordinated by Ms. Tamil Selvi N., Mr. K. V. R. Prasad, Dr. Pradeepa S. and Ms. Anitha J.

As the part of the course “Social connect & Responsibility” the department organized Heritage trip to ISKCON temple on 23rd February 2024. The event was coordinated by Dr. Pradeepa S. and Ms. Bhavya S.

The department of Civil Engineering in association with Institution’s Innovation Council as a part of the Pollution Control Day Awareness Program organized Drawing competition on “Artistic Solutions for a Cleaner Tomorrow” at Sir M.V. Seminar Hall on 21st February 2024. The event was coordinated by Mr. K. V. R. Prasad, Ms. P. Kezia Joy Kumari, Mr. V. Rajesh Kumar and Ms. Tamil Selvi N.

The department of Civil Engineering in association with association with Institution’s Innovation Council as a part of the Pollution Control Day Awareness Program organized quiz event from 19th to 21st February 2024. The quiz event was conducted across the departments. 173 students participated in the event. The event was coordinated by Ms. Tamil Selvi N., Dr. Pradeepa S. and Ms. Subhadra G. D.

As the part of the course “Environmental Studies” the department organized “Environmental Awareness Program” at Sir MVIT campus on 21st February 2024. The event was coordinated by Ms. Vyshnavi D. R., Ms. Anitha J. and Ms. Ramya N.

2023:

On behalf of IIC Sir MVIT, the department organized a MIC-driven activity, "Viksit Bharat PM Live Webcast," on 11th December 2023. The resource person of the event was Ms. Reena Sonigrah, Well Being Consultant, Sir MVIT. This program aimed at active youth participation and engagement in shaping the future of India towards 2047.

Department of Civil Engineering in association with Indian Concrete Institute Bengaluru Centre, Karnataka had organized a Technical Talk by Er. H. R. Girish., Chairman ICI and Er. Suhas R., Secretary ICI on “Latest Developments in Bridge Engineering” on 21st Nov 2023 at M. V. Seminar Hall. 60 students from Seventh, Third and First Semester participated in the event.

The department had organized a One- Day Student Development Program (SDP) by Dr. U. B. Mallikarjuna, Consulting Hydrogeologist and Former Professor and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Sambhram Institute of Technology, Bengaluru on “Groundwater Investigation by Electrical Resistivity Method: A Practical Approach” on 18th October 2023 at M. V. Seminar Hall, Department of Civil Engineering, Sir MVIT. About 58 students from Seventh semester participated in the event.

The department had organized One Day Workshop in collaboration with SMEC, Surbana Jurong on “Curating Innovative Future Technologist” on 11th October 2023 at M. V. Seminar Hall, Department of Civil Engineering, Sir MVIT. About 58 students from Seventh semester participated in the event.

Department of Civil Engineering Organized Community Engagement Activity on the topic “Lifestyle Management” on 20th September 2023. There were about 60 students from Government Higher Primary School, Bettahalsoor participated in the event.

A project-based learning activity for the course Public Health Engineering was organized on 15th September 2023 for Fourth semester students of Civil Engineering Department.

A project-based learning activity for the course Renewable Energy sources was organized on 9th September 2023 for Second semester students of ME, EEE and ISE branch at Civil model Room.

The Department Conducted the Alumni Interactions and alumni meet on 13-10-2023 at M. V. Seminar Hall, Department of Civil Engineering, Sir MVIT. In which the Original Degree certificates of the students were distributed.

Department of Civil & Mechanical Engineering in association with L&T EduTech organised seminar on “Technical Education beyond Syllabus” at Sir M. V. Civil seminar Hall on 5th July 2023. Overall, 51 students of second semester participated in the event.

One-Day visit to the Karnataka State Remote Sensing Application Centre, Bengaluru was organized on 04-08-2023. Overall, 21 students of Fourth semester visited Karnataka State Remote Sensing Application Centre, Govt. of Karnataka, near Yelahanka, Bangalore along with faculty members Dr. Shivanna S., Ms. Pradeepa S. and Ms. Vyshnavi D. R. The objective of the visit to get the knowledge on Remote Sensing Applications in the Field of Civil Engineering

Project-based learning activity for the course on Alternate Building Materials and Railway, Harbours, Tunnelling & Airports was organized on 20-06-2023 for S6 Students of Civil Engineering Department at Sir. M. V. Civil Seminar Hall. Ms. Anitha J. and Ms. Ramya was the coordinators of this activity.

Ms. Tamil Selvi N. & Mr. Sriram Mustapure organised Guest Lecture on Rock & Mineral Resources for subject Conservation of Natural Resources by Dr. Shivanna S., Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Sir M. VIT Bengaluru on 31-05-2023. Overall, 50 students of Sixth semester participated in the event.

Department of Civil Engineering organised Project Exhibition on 13-05-2023. 40 students of Eighth Semester participated in the event.

The Department Organised Industrial Awareness Program on Building Information Modelling by Mr. Viswas K Viswanathan, Industry Partner, Autodesk Certified Instructors, Bangalore on 25th April 2023. Overall 45 students of 6th sem participated in the event.

The Department Conducted the Alumni Interactions and alumni meet on 25-03-2023 at Civil Seminar Hall. Around 20 Students of 2018-2022 Graduated batch, attended the programme, in which the Original Degree certificates of the students were distributed. Ms. Lalita R. Hangarai who got VTU 8th Rank and Ms. Deepika R., who got VTU Gold medal and, Ms. Akanksha, Best student of the 2018-22 batch, were also felicitated, in the programme.

The department in association with Indian Concrete Institute organized a Webinar on "Sustainable Cities with ESGImpact” by Ar. Jyothi Gupta on 23-02-2023. 70 students participated in the event.

One-day Site visit to Anthem Bio Science, Harohalli Industrial Area, Bangalore, for S5 students on 9-01-2023 . 5th sem students visited this site. Students got Technical exposure on construction.
